Popularity of 'Co-op' over time
This chart shows the amount of games released over the years with the Co-op feature and the percentage of games released on Steam they account for. The number of releases gives an appreciation of the quantity of games published each year. It often tends to increase naturally, just like the total amount of Steam games released.
The percentage gives a better estimate of the feature's trend. It shows if the Co-op feature is getting more or less popular amongst developers. The Review chart can let us know if this trend is a positive thing (i.e. players interest for the feature is growing) or a negative one (the feature is overcrowded).
The Co-op game feature peaked in 2022 with 1181 games released. The popularity of the feature is in a range between 5.1% in 2011 and 2.2% in 2014.
Keep in mind that the current year is not over, so the number of games released will still increase. But the percentage is usually a good estimate.
Evolution of 'Co-op' game reviews
This graph displays the reviews for games associated with the Co-op feature, both as count and as a percentage of all Steam reviews, and the value for an average game. If the graph is hard to read, you can deactivate the review count and % of the average lines by clicking on the legend.
The review count gives a view of the sheer amount of reviews a feature receives, but it also follows the popularity of Steam itself. That is why the normalized value as a percentage of all Steam reviews is often more interesting, as it gives you the popularity trend for Co-op feature games.
A typical game associated with this feature collected on average between 96 (2010) and 1966 (2014) reviews. Keep in mind that it is the average and not the median, meaning it is heavily influenced by extreme values, like a very successful game with this feature.
The reviews per game as a percentage of the average show that games in the Co-op feature received between 235% (2013) and 467% (2021) reviews compared to other features.
