Text-Based tag

This chart displays the games released over the years with the Text-Based tag and the percentage of total Steam releases they represent. The number of releases gives an appreciation of the quantity of games published each year. It often tends to increase naturally, just like the total amount of Steam games released.

The percentage, on the other hand, gives a better idea of the trend a tag follows. It shows if, in proportion, the Text-Based tag is getting more or less popular from a developer's perspective. The Review chart will tell us if this trend is a good thing (i.e. players interest is increasing, tag is undercrowded) or if it's the opposite.

The Text-Based game tag peaked in 2022 with 358 games released. The popularity of the tag is in a range between 0.02% in 2012 and 0.23% in 2022.

Keep in mind that the current year is not over, so the number of games released will still increase. But the percentage is usually a good estimate.

This chart shows the reviews for games with the Text-Based tag, either as count and as a percentage of all Steam reviews, and the average value for a game. Note that if the normalized and average lines are too small, you can deactivate the review count and % of the average lines by clicking on the legend.

The review count gives a view of the sheer amount of reviews a tag receives, but it also follows the popularity of Steam itself. That is why the normalized value as a percentage of all Steam reviews is often more interesting, as it gives you the popularity trend for Text-Based tag games.

A typical game associated with this tag collected on average between 20 (2010) and 379 (2015) reviews. Keep in mind that it is the average and not the median, meaning it is heavily influenced by extreme values, like a very successful game with this tag.

The reviews per game as a percentage of the average show that games in the Text-Based tag received between 14% (2020) and 85% (2015) reviews compared to other tags.

This graph displays the evolution of the Text-Based tag's games price in USD over the years, and the percentage of free to play games in this tag. Bear in mind that there is inflation over time, which means that a price should slowly increase just to keep the same value.

The median game price was at its lowest in 2015 at 4.99$, and peaked in 2021 at 6.99$. The percentage of free to play peaked in 2020 at 18%, and bottomed in 2023 at 1%.

This graph shows an aggregated Steam rating for the whole Text-Based tag, separated by language. It gives an idea about how different audiences will judge a game with this tag. A lower rating doesn't always mean that the audience doesn't enjoy that particular tag, as some cultures tend to always give lower scores. But it will affect a game's rating nonetheless.

The best rating for Text-Based games is 96% for the Romanian audience, and the worst is 84% for the Dutch audience.
